Thanks to my employer, I was recently able to complete the O’Reilly School of Technology’s JavaScript Program. It was an intensive program that was broken into 3 classes:
- JavaScript: An Introduction
- JavaScript: JSON and Ajax
- Advanced JavaScript Essentials
I was really happy with my experience in the program. I thought the first 2 classes were really good. There were some issues with the 3rd course. I thought it was a tad too text heavy and I would get bored at times. Towards the end of the 3rd course, it wasn’t as text heavy. Overall I did learn a lot from the 3rd course, I’m just more of a visual learner (videos) and I think that is why I had issues with the third class.
My only complaint of the O’Reilly classes are they are all text/image based. They do not have any videos/screenshots of the concepts they are teaching. What’s kind of ironic with that statement is O’Reilly is shutting down the school and is moving towards a video based tutorial system. I like the idea of a school that has quizzes, assignments, and projects. I just wished they could have had videos in their course materials. I’m hoping that O’Reilly can somehow merge their school program with a video based system.
